24/11/20 PLEASURE SESSION ON MOORS LAKE AT AVALON FISHERY

I have been meaning to have a go on Moors lake for sometime and today was finally my first time. I decided once again to have a day targeting the silver fish. I had heard that the skimmers are quite sizable and that keepnets were allowed this time of year for silver fish🙂👍. So a nice fat net of silvers was on the cards......or at least that's what I thought.

Peg 4 was to be my spot for the session, lake plumbed upto about 6feet deep almost everywhere. Rumour had it that you could catch close on this lake. I had no experience to draw on regarding this lake so I settled 2 topkit and two lines, one at 10o'clock and another at 2 o'clock. I always like to have a positive line when silver fishing so a line at 12metres was earmarked.

liquidised bread was fed on the 10 o'clock line, on the 2 o'clock swim one ball of dark GB (laced with dead maggot and pellets), whilst 3 balls of the same GB mix was fed at 12metres.

I started on bread punch over 10 o'clock swim, it was really slow, 2 tiny roach were all I could manage, tried maggot and pinkie over this line, but still no good.

A switch to the 2 o'clock swim was also very slow with odd roach falling to a maggot and pinkie cocktail, every now and then a small skimmer also, made an appearance.

I realised it was going to be hard, I thought perhaps a new very negatively fed line might help. I setup a topkit and 3 line straight out in front fed with a thimble of soaked micros.

I then went out for a quick look on the 12Metre line, nothing doing so I dropped on the new pellet line with expanda and had a couple of small skimmers.

I could now only get bites from pellet line and 2 o'clock line.

I started to feed maggots over the 11o'clock line by hand and rotated between my other lines, picking off odd fish, but I could never find a pattern.

I had my best skimmer of the day 1metre past the feed on my 12metre line. A look onto the maggot fed line also produced a few fish but only tiny roach.

I did setup another pellet line at top and 4 to my right this only produced one skimmer.

Other than 2 foul hooked carp not a lot else happened and I finished up with 5lb 4oz of bits and pieces, not a fantastic day but i did enjoy it👍.
