23/11/20 A PLEASURE FISHING SESSION AT ACORN FISHERY

I woke with the intention of another day bagging skimmers from Plantation lakes, i had to take a little detour to collect some maggots from Cadbury angling (which is based at Acorn fishery). Once there i had a change of heart and decided a session targeting the Tench on the Paddock pool might be a more interesting day. Peg 40 was vacant and as this is the best peg to catch said Tench it was a no brainer.

I decided that I would fish for the Tench by loose feeding maggots and fishing maggot over the top. I setup a 0.4g Drennan AS3 float, with a bulk and two droppers to fish on the deck, just past topkit and two, towards the bridge (the peg was deeper towards the bridge).

I started feeding this line by hand whilst setting up a 0.3g Drennan AS5 rig to fish pellet topkit and 3 slightly right in open water. This was to be fed via a tiny pole pot with 1mm & 3mm soaked pellets. I also setup a 0.3g Drennan crystal margin float to fish at 12metres in 3 feet of water with corn.

I started fishing on the open water pellet line, a quicker skimmer got my hopes up but it was to be a slow start. I continued to feed the maggot line by by hand and i had fed some corn across with 20 grains of corn through the big pot.

I couldn't wait any longer and had to have a look on the maggot line, i was surprised to get no indications. I was quickly out on the corn line and again no signs, so i topped it up and went back on the pellets, another skimmer was my reward.

It was proving to be a very slow start and i was beginning to think i might be in for a tough day. Another look over the maggot line, this time feeding with a small pole pot whilst fishing the line. As I laid the rig in and it settled bag it was gone my first decent Tench was hooked. I thought this might be the start of a run but it wasnt.

So i went around the lines again, i slowly started to pick up fish from all the lines. The maggot line produced all the better Tench a Crucian and a couple of skimmers, I found that all my bite came as the rig settled on this line and so i can only conclude the Tench were watching the bait fall before taking. I caught Carp and F1s on the corn line, i only had a few bites on this line but the fish were quality on the corn. The pellet line was slow for most of the day, until the last hour when it was the best line producing Carp, Skimmers, small Tench.

I had a lovely days sport at a great venue, i'm off to Avalon fishery tomorrow, ive never fished the match lake there so im looking forward to a new challenge.
