Acorn evening Mega weights and some Controversy

Acorn certainly fished well last night, although this was an evening match and only 6 turned up so it was a bit of a pleasure session for us all really.
I drew peg 18 which was the end peg on the night, I started hard pellet left and right down the slope top and one. I was also feeding soft pellet (expanda) by hand down the middle(shallow line for later). I caught a nice Tench and a skimmer on short lines, and foul hooked and lost a few carp.
It was obvious they wanted to be up, I could see fish milling about on the pellet fed line so I got the shallow rig out. (I was already falling behind everyone else☹.)
Over the next 40mins I managed to hook and land only 2 fish. The fish were so shallow I couldnt get them to take the bait tried several depths, tried slapping, tried everything I know really.
I noticed that the fish were not really spooked by the pole, so I decided to try something that I have never done before. I got a spare topkit off the roost and put a hooklength straight onto the dacron, I effectively had 6 inches of line and a hook for rig. I then shipped out and tapped the water in the middle of the feed area. This resulted in elastic streaming out of the pole.
I understand that this method can be controversial as I don't have a float or shot on the line and my rig is very short. I have read the match rules for Acorn several times and I have never read about this being an issue. (Having said all this I probably wouldn't do it again as I don't wish to cause angst with my fellow competitors).
I went on to have the craziest 1hr and 40mins of fishing I've ever had in a match, I managed to weigh 169lb 14oz and scraped a win by just over 1lb.
Even the net weights were controversial,
basically 2 of my nets weighed over 60 but less than 70, so they were only counted as 60 each! If this had been a Tuesday when Mike runs a slightly lower net limit, it would have meant both were discounted and I would have weighed nothing for the 2 nets.
I got lucky, (especially as one net was 69lb 5oz, 11oz off being discounted🤦).......hope everyone is still speaking to me on the next match🤣🤣🤣😂😂👍. Just a quick shout out to the junior angler Freddie who was on peg 15 last night, he is doing really well and could be a star of the future👍, keep it up mate! Lovely to see young anglers coming through to keep match fishing alive for the future.
