I'm not usually able to fish on a Monday, so when I heard that Tony Rixon was running a Monday open at Acorn, I couldn't resist.
11 anglers turned up and I drew peg 13, I was quite happy with that😊.
I started across dobbing with bread, had a couple of quick small carp. The Roach were making a nuisance of themselves stealing my bread, not good when your shipping 14.5m in the wind😡😡.
I switched to double maggot and never looked back, I caught on and off in spells dobbing all across my far line.
In the last hour I started to look down the near shelf left and right, looking to see if I might be able to get amongst the proper lumps. This was a mistake as I didn't catch any and could probably have put another 10lb in the bag by fishing across.
I finished 3rd with 63lb only another 5lb would have seen me secure second🤦, that's match fishing, decisions, decisions, decisions. The match was won by Paul Faires with over 80lb, 38lb of which was silvers, top angling in December.
