I arrived totally oblivious to the fact that I was late...Oops! So by the time I had my gear out the van everyone else was already at their pegs. I had been drawn peg13 on the main lake, the same peg that I struggled from on the the first round of this league.
I though it would fish hard and silvers might be really important, with this in mind I made silver a big part of my plan.
Two short lines and one long line, all dedicated to targeting skimmers. I put one ball of GB on my left short line, 3 balls on my right short line and a ball of 1mm pellets on my long line.
My No6 section snapped, so I had to telescope it so that I could continue. Not a great start and all my bait had been fed with a slightly longer pole ,(telescoped section was now much shorter). I added a dolly button to my pole to get around this.
I caught slowly on the one ball line.
As the line slowed I moved out long had a couple of small skimmers, it was well over an hour before I started to catch on the 3 ball line. I basically rotated around the 3 lines topping up as I went and getting good runs of skimmers from each line.
I found neat ground bait worked well on the short lines and I switched the long line to maggot as pellet wasn't right. Double maggot hookbait was the best.
As the match went on I upped the feed trying to encourage carp to come into my long line. I eventually hooked one at 12lb a nice fish.
Some how I managed to completely miss the fact that others had started catching carp short. I plugged away at my silvers most of the match weighing 40lb of silvers and 12lb of carp for 52lb total.
I only beat 2 people in section as the carp had fed hard in some areas and late in others. I should have switched to fishing short with 2hrs to go, but I think I was enjoying myself too much😂🤣👍
I won top silvers weight on the day so a small consolation😊
