Mike Hill had been planning to have this match at Hunstrete, sadly the Lake was closed for fish welfare reasons. So instead we found ourselves on the main Lake at Shiplate Farm...ššš.
Couple of late dropouts left us with 10 fishing so plenty of room and a friendly little knockupš, I was glad of the room, a very hard frost last night was going to make fishing tricky enough.
I drew peg 6 so not too bad, I was having a lazy day and so only setup one rig and the pellet wag. Started short topkit and 1section, 6mm meat, 30mins passed without any indications.
So straight out to 16m same rig only it was 1 float length shallower. Same again 6mm meat fed through a toss pot and presented on a slow falling rig.
It certainly wasn't hectic, 3hrs in 2 small Carp and 5 skimmers was all I had managaed. This was doing OK in the match as several were still blanking only Nic, opposite was ahead of me, she was catching on the method to the Island she seemed to be running away into an early lead.
Slowly my catch rate improved, I only really came off the 16m line for a 20min go on the wag, which was a waste of time. 3 double figure carp and a nice eel helped me to a final tally of 55lb, which was just enough to pip Nic with her 51lb.
Despite the cold start it was a lovely sunny day, a bitof light banter and some bites....just how fishing should beššš
