I have just returned from my first ever 5 day silver fish festival at staffordmoor. Things started badly with a wind damaged pole and a broken mobile phone on practice match day.
Match day one saw me on 16 on Tanners, a good peg in a good section, I managed to catch 42lb of mainly Carassio on the feeder, to win the section and lake. (This would prove to be the highest weight of the week😊).
Day two and down to earth with a bang, I was on Pines 19, Des Shipp had been last in section from here on day 1, so it was going to be tough, long story short I beat 1 in the section for 5th☹.
Day three was peg16 on woodpecker, this was a real close section on the day, a low weight of 8lb was good enough for 3rd in section, only 1.5lb off 1st. This day was mostly a pole approach as the feeder produced very little. I had twice as many fish as anyone else in the section but my fish were tiny.
Day four I was back on Tanners on peg 6, a good peg and another day where the feeder was key. I started well but when things slowed I went onto pole lines and it was tough. I finished up second but with hindsight I should have stayed on the feeder all day. I weighed around 18lb with 25lb winning.
Last day and I was in a good position to frame, I needed a section win I drew peg 17 on Tanners, a lovely start on the feeder for me, after an hour I started to fall behind peg 18, he was catching very well (carrassios) . This affected my thinking and I started to try and change things too much, this made it worse and I ended up finishing 3rd.
I finished the festival in 13th (out of 54), I was happy with this for my first festival, however I do think my poor fishing on day 4 and 5 cost me a framing place.
