A rare weekend in which I managed to get out both Saturday and Sunday, Acorn and Viaduct respectively.
ACORN
It was the first round of this year's spring league. The first round is a random draw and I was last to draw, I was well happy to find ball number 5 in the bottom of the bagš.
I started short on pellet, it was slow only a couple of small fish landed and a couple of lost foul hookers. So over with the same rig at the bottom of the far shelf, this time on corn. A skimmer and a couple of tench plus more lost foul hookers.
So I went over tight in the shallow water on corn, a run of a couple of carp before bites dried up. Moved to a new spot had another couple but it was getting harder.
It was too early to go in the margins so I tried tapping with a shallow rig and was surprised that it worked and another run of carp followed.
I then struggled for a couple of hours before finishing in the margin to my left and catching a run of nice carp on corn for a final weight of 107lb. Good enough for 2nd in sectionš. No way I was going to compete with the 177lb on peg 11, great weight for April.
VIADUCT
an open match on Campbell, 19 fishing today. I have very little experience at Viaduct especially on Campbell. I drew peg 111 and I decided to keep it real simple. I fished the pole at 14m for the first 5hrs. I kept pinging corn all day small amounts and hoped for a mixed bag. Sport was slow and only a few bites for the first couple of hours. I caught a little better as the match wore on, odd carp and skimmers falling to corn. I had about 50lb with an hour to go, so I decided to drop in the margins, 3 big carp all double figure fish helped push me to a finishing weight of 81lb. This was 5th overallšš.
