Monday Acorn open, Tony drew me peg 5 I was very very happy as this is one of the best pegs at the moment. Unfortunately my joy was short lived as the draw was void☹, Tony had not put enough pegs in the draw container😭😭😭.
After the redraw I was now on peg 21, a peg I don't draw very often, not a favoured area, but it has a bridge and I had plenty of room😊.
I thought that fishing for the silvers pool might be a good idea, with pegs 5,9,11 performing so well I felt I would have my work cutout to compete.
Still I started Dobbing on bread across just incase, I had a 2lb carp a 5oz carp and a 2lb F1, it then became very hard to get any indications.
I fitted a tiny cup to my dobbing topkit, I thumbed in some liquidised bread, I fed this over the area I had caught from.
A sign but no bite so I fed again, I then had a big roach and 2 more of the 5oz carp.
It was time to feed, I had 3 lines at about 3foot deep up the far slope. I fed one with a one handed sized ball of GB, with a pinch or corn and 30 maggots. I fed another with 15 maggots, the other I left unfed.
I went over the maggot fed line no bites, I went over the GB line, no bites☹.
I fed a tiny ball of GB through a tiny pole pot over the maggot line, this resulted in a run of fish, skimmer, tench and more 5oz carp🤣😂. I did feed a few maggots every couple of puts also.
This line did die, so I fed the unfed line with a small ball of GB, I caught a couple more, silvers on this line. The two lines were now dead, I left them to settle, whilst I fished in the deepest part of my peg against the bridge, fed a small ball of GB and some loose maggot, sat on this for 20mins, no bites☹.
Had another little look dobbing, nothing doing.
So back onto the 3 foot lines feeding tiny amounts of GB and maggots I picked up very odd fish.
With about 1.5hrs to go I started to try and push the feeding a little uping it slightly, this resulted in a 2lb carp and a 7lb carp a great sign, had they turned up?
The 3 foot lines were very slow and they were dwindling away.
I decided to setup a new line next to the empty peg on my right. The 3 foot rig was just the right depth so I figured I could continue to rotate round my lines, all was good😊👍.
I went against the pallet fed some maggot through the tiny pole pot, double maggot on the hook, the float buried straight away, this fish broke me against the wooden legs of the platform☹☹. New hooklength on straight out and I soon had a carp in the net😊😊😊. The next fish got under the pallet again and broke the line again😡😡😡.
I jumped off my box got a stronger elastic topkit out and plumbed up a stronger rig. I switched to bread on the hook (I thought it might mask the bigger hook better than maggots.
I spent the last 30mins of the match trying to catch and land the carp under the platform as fast as I could.
I weighed 6lb of silvers and 41lb of carp finishing with just over 47lb, to my surprise this was enough to frame(3rd) only 5oz behind second🤦.
