First match back from a 3 month lock down, booked myself on the Tuesday affordable at Acorn. My excitement was dampened by an average draw peg22. I wasn't too deterred I was going to enjoy some fishing on a lovely day and take what came. I was having a go at doing some filming for YouTube so I was just happy to be out.
After a lot of faffing about I ran out of time to get some maggots from the onsite tackle shop so decided to stick with what I had, 2mm,4mm,6mm pellets with some expanders and corn.
Started across in 16inches of water 4mms in a small pole pot and 6mmexpander on the hook, the elastic got ripped out the topkit before I could finish feeding the 4mms😊😊😊. 2 more puts and 2 more quick fish, things were looking up.
Tough period followed before I slowly started to get odd fish.
Seemed best to feed a small pot and fish on it for a couple of minutes. If you didn't hook one in 2 mins, you needed to refeed. Little runs of odd fish was the best i could manage, but the average stamp was decent and my weight was ticking over.
I had plumbed lines short and in the margins, none produced any signs. i never even bothered with the full depth rig, seemed pointless.
I did start a new line 13m across closer to the bridge, found a nice area where i could use the same rig, had one first go. This produced another run of fish which really boosted my weight. I spent the rest of the match swapping between the 2 far lines, with occasional fruitless forays into margins.
I was very surprised to find that i had won the match with 92lb 3oz, i thought i might scrape the frame, but it seems the usual flyers hadn't produced.
